Mia Madison
Community Foundation of Greater Memphis


Mia D. Madison, Director of WHEREtoGIVEmidsouth.org, holds a Master’s degree in Applied Urban Anthropology and a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Geography Techniques and Planning, both from the University of Memphis. Mia received a First Generations Fellowship during her graduate program and served as a community organizer in the Bickford/Bearwater Neighborhood. As a Project Coordinator and Board Member with Greater Memphis Greenline, Mia worked specifically on the Chelsea Avenue Greenline project (2011 to 2015) to advocate for increased public infrastructure and walking/cycling activity among African Americans in the North Memphis Area.

During her tenure with the City of Memphis Division of Housing and Community Development (2010-2015) where she started as an unpaid intern, her dedication to service was well observed and furthered through her role as a Planning Mapping Analyst. She was selected as an Emerging Leader by the City of Memphis for the Class of 2014.

At the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis, Mia manages WHEREweLIVEmidsouth.org and WHEREtoGIVEmidsouth.org. These two new community web-tools: WHEREweLIVEmidsouth.org, an online data portal, and WHEREtoGIVEmidsouth.org, a comprehensive nonprofit database.

Mia has severed on several boards and committees, including Mid-South Regional Greenprint (Social Equity Chair), Mid-South Peace and Justice Center (Board Member), Uptown West Steering Committee, Memphis In May (Recycling Committee), and On Location: Memphis (Board Member/Technical Chair). She has published several scholarly articles with other esteemed geographers and environmental anthropologists; served as a volunteer on a host of projects; and, continues her activism around teen/youth engagement.

Mia Madison, a native Memphian dedicated to service with a unique perspective of advocacy, activism and community.
