Sybil Scarbrough
Executive Assistant to Mayor, Birmingham, AL


Sybil Scarbrough serves an Executive Assistant to Mayor William A. Bell in the capacity as a Communications Liaison. Her current assignment is through the Community Resource Services Division where she has the opportunity to work at the grassroots level with some of Birmingham’s dynamic 99 neighborhoods and 23 communities. Her most recent accomplishment for the city is serving as anchor, reporter and Executive Producer of an award winning video and leading a team presentation in Houston, Texas that won Birmingham the bid to host the Neighborhoods USA Conference in 2018. Also while appointed to the Mayor’s Office of ADA she served as writer and producer of a published resource guide and helped launch a summer internship program for youth with disabilities. Prior to this appointment she served as liaison for Education, Faith Based Initiatives and Family Services in the Division of Youth Services, working on such programs as the WEE Read Literacy Initiative; Extraordinary Arts for Extraordinary Kids with Disabilities, as well as Project Homeless Connect, just to name a few.

Sybil was named “Who’s Who in Black Alabama 2014” and was listed in the 2010 edition of “Who’s Who in Black Birmingham”. This rising author also published her first book entitled, “My Choice, Which Road?”

As an accomplished freelance journalist, Sybil served as Executive Producer and anchor of a video that is currently used to train Intake Investigators in the E.E.O.C.’s Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Sybil has spent many years in some of the top newsrooms in the country. She has utilized her leadership skills as a News Manager, an Executive Producer and Sr. Producer in very competitive media markets. This Alabama Associated Press Award Winner dedicated 12 years to WBRC-FOX6 as Executive Producer and News Manager of numerous franchises including FOX6 on Your Side, What’s Right With Our Schools; Absolutely Alabama; the FOX6 School Cleanup; FOX6 Helping Schools; and FOX6 Families for Kids, for which she received an award from the Alabama Department of Human Resources for her dedication to Alabama’s waiting children. She was also heavily recruited from Virginia to come launch FOX6’s “Good Day Alabama” and she also created and launched FOX6 News Saturday Morning. Prior media credentials include working as a Field Producer and Senior Producer at WAVY TV-10, Norfolk/ Portsmouth, VA and as an Associate Producer & Sports Photographer at WJTV-12, Jackson, MS.

Sybil received her Bachelor of Arts in English/Mass Communications and Master’s Degree in Secondary Education from Alcorn State University. She is very active in ministry at The Worship Center Christian Church. Sybil is a 2015 graduate of Project Corporate Leadership. Additionally, she is the 2015-2016 Magic City Chapter of the National Forum for Black Public Administrators President; and serves on the board of directors for the Children’s Policy Council, the National Academy of Finance and The Family Guidance Center of Alabama.
